§ 20-17. Political activities.

  • (a)

    No person shall seek or attempt to use any political endorsement in connection with any appointment to a position under the merit system.

    (b)

    No person shall use or promise to use, directly or indirectly, any official authority or influence, whether possessed or anticipated, to secure or attempt to secure for any person an appointment or advantage in appointment to a position under the merit system, or an increase in pay or any other advantage in employment in this position for the purpose of influencing the vote or political action of any person, or for any consideration.

    (c)

    No employee under the merit system shall be a candidate for nomination or election to any elective public office, or take part in the management or affairs of any political campaign, except to exercise the right as a citizen to express an opinion privately and to cast a vote.

    (d)

    Employees whose principal employment is in connection with an activity which is financed in whole or in part by loans or grants made by the United States or a federal agency are subject to the provisions of the Hatch Act.
