§ 20-164. Holidays.

  • (a)

    The county will observe ten (10) paid holidays per year. These are:

    January 1, New Year's Day.

    Third Monday in January, Martin Luther King's birthday.

    Third Monday in February, George Washington's birthday.

    Last Monday in May, Memorial Day.

    July 4, Independence Day.

    First Monday in September, Labor Day.

    November 11, Veteran's Day.

    Fourth Thursday in November, Thanksgiving Day.

    Friday immediately following Thanksgiving Day.

    December 25, Christmas Day.

    (b)

    Whenever a legal holiday occurs on Saturday, the previous Friday will be observed. Whenever a legal holiday occurs on Sunday, the following Monday will be observed.

    (c)

    Any employee who is required to work the holiday may be allowed to take a day off at a subsequent date no later than twelve (12) months following the holiday or, upon the approval of the chief executive or the chief executive's designee, may be paid for the holiday at a straight-time rate.

    (d)

    In 2009, the county will not observe the Friday immediately following Thanksgiving Day as a paid holiday.

    (e)

    In 2010, the county will not observe Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day as paid holidays.

    (f)

    In 2011, the county will not observe Labor Day, Veteran's Day, and the Friday immediately following Thanksgiving Day as paid holidays.
