§ 13-126. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Animal means any domesticated or undomesticated animal, and includes but is not limited to dogs and cats, wild carnivores, cattle and other livestock, bats, rodents and rabbits, and opossums.

    Animal control center means the facility established by the board of commissioners and used by the director for the detention of animals.

    Bite (bitten) means any injury caused by an animal which results in breakage of the skin.

    County rabies control officer means the person responsible for assuring compliance with the provisions of this article in accordance with section 13-145.

    Home quarantine means secure confinement and isolation of an animal from exposure to humans and other animals at the residence of the owner of the animal where access is provided to the animal control center for monitoring the condition of the animal.

    Quarantine means the secure confinement and isolation of an animal from exposure to other animals in the animal control center or a veterinary hospital or other approved boarding kennel.

    Vaccinated or inoculated means the injection of antirabies vaccine into the body of an animal by a veterinarian using a vaccine approved by the Georgia Department of Human Resources.

    Veterinarian means a person licensed to practice veterinary medicine in accordance with O.C.G.A. tit. 43, ch. 50 [§ 43-50-1 et seq.]
